A Poor Man’s Song

Though fearfully pierced

And beginning that

Never-to-end fall

I sing joyously:

Of hope,

Of love,

Of my lady.

Surely someone, somewhere

has heard of a story

In which the

Head of a queen

Is turned by a

Poor man’s song

And the death of a pawn.

Finish

Hoping to be forgiven here for re-posting something that came to me this time last year, following the shocking

finish to the Boston Marathon in New England. Since then I have actually visited New England and walked the Boston streets …

and the “anniversary” was featured on BBC News today.

The piece I had written for today will just as easily be here tomorrow, but this one should be here today – a reminder and my respects paid.

Terrible sounds and memories from a

Long gone troubled English evening

Tumbling over and over, reach me:

Carried on a Patriot wind.

Charity and lavender dreams shattered,

May make such easy casual-slaughter victims;

But remember  your secret,

Dark-mask shadows

Are not welcome here …

The fact that you can

Gives you no rights.

Please let this finish line

Be the last.

A One Shoe Pony

Windswept, hungry, choked and blue,

Both of us more about shadow ‘n’ hope

Than muscle and soul –

Limping along the briar’d banks

Between ancient railway-becoming-fossil

And another sunset-mirror lake,

Charlotte’s Grandchildren

In the distance, below the horizon ridge

A honey coated horse is head down grazing;

At rest,  firm edged shadow leaning long

Down the gentle February slope.

It is nearly possible to hear the explosions

In the atomic heart workings of the sun –

On a day which balances preciously between

Passing winter and welcome spring…

And Charlotte’s grandchildren are

Taking to the joyful jester-hope skies.
