Earth Calling Gort …

soldier
It’s never the soldiering
That kills the soldier;
It’s the injustices that
Keep coming back
Because we are only
Casually vigilant.

soldier2
It’s not the wars
That corrupt childhoods,
Feed sorrow’s pitiful scarecrows
With black rumour;
It’s the barenaked duplicity
Of politicians;
The crowing,
Rapacious greed that
They try, so poorly,
To hide.

Once she climbed the

Devil’s Staircase,

For me, for you,

With heritage-proud

Power in her roaring voice.

Now, atomic bat,

Drifting gracefully

Into history.

Supreme silver tiger,

Aggressive aluminium angel;

Somewhere between now

And past high sky circles.

Quietly saving civilisation

Until we could, ungratefully,

Reject you.
